Helping Your Children Adjust to Relocating

Summer time a lot of people will be moving. Families moving to another city because their child is going to high school or going off to College. Its hard when you have to relocate. This blog is a good one written by Evelyn Bruder. So if you know anyone who is looking to relocate to PG County MD or Washington DC and looking to buy a house, please tell them to give me a call.

Relocation with ChildrenIf you're relocating or moving to a new home in a new community you ought to consider how your kids are going to react.

We have worked with hundreds of people who relocated to Las Cruces with children. Here is a list of ideas that we have gathered over the years.

Moving isn't a challenge, it's an adventure. If you don't see it that way, your children certainly won't.

Make it a priority to get your child settled into their room first. This helps them feel more comfortable with their surroundings and begin to adapt.

Keep the old rituals and routines. If your routine includes getting donuts on Saturday morning, find a new place in your new home town and keep the tradition alive.

Don't let them become couch potatoes. Encourage your child to make new friends and invite them over. Start in your new neighborhood. You may also consider throwing a house warming party and invite the new neighbors.

Get your child involved in sports or school activities as soon as possible. This will help them make new friends and get to know the new adults that will be in their lives.

Help the kids stay in touch with old friends. If you get them their own stationery set and stamps they can make staying in touch fun and it may save on phone bills.

Get your kids a camera so they can take pictures of their new home
and community to share with old friends.

Becoming aware of your new neighborhood and community is something to do with the whole family. As I mentioned above, find the donut shop or pizza parlor. Start this right away. Take a break from unpacking and tour the town.

Relocating does not need to be a horrible experience. With proper planning you can make it seamless. That's why we have a website completely devoted to Relocating to Las Cruces. It's also why we devote so much time on our blog to Relocation.
