Life by Default or Life by Design-Trying to overcome procrastinating. This blog was actually written like two or three weeks ago. Now the proxy error thing didn't allow me to write this blog when I wanted to,but I still should've posted this blog a week ago or so.
Anyway I am doing this exercise for me because there are areas in our lives like many of us that needs some improvement. One I have been trying to figure out for years who I would choose to be my coach because I have never been coached before and I know that I need one. I know that I need to be in front of people everyday. People want to buy and sell. But how can people know that if you don't let more people know that you are a real estate professional.
Though we are all experiencing tough times,we shouldn't use it as an excuse to say that is the reason why my real estate sales are down. People live in a house-Real Estate. The offices that people work out of-Real Estate,People shop at supermarkets or stores-Real Estate,We go to church-Real Estate. Small business need a building to lease out for their building-Real Estate. Real Estate is something that is always going to be in demand in spite of this bad economy.
If you did maybe $10 million in real estate sales when the market was great and now you can't do 1/5 of that,then maybe there are some things that you need to alter in your business plan. Like Gary Keller's book-"Shift".You need to make a shift. Shift the way you do business. Shift the tools you are using to generate leads and business. If you are not using Social Media to generate business,start now. You will be surprised so many real estate agents who are not on LinkedIN,Twitter,Facebook,Active Rain,Friendster and all the major Social Media sites. I am not doing great because I know that I am not doing more the things that I should be doing. Not only do I need to do more things but I need to do it on a CONSISTENT BASIS. I can't blog two days straight and disappear four straight days expecting to get great leads-IT IS NOT GOING TO WORK. People are quick to give up on something if they don't see immediate results. You have to be patient. If you don't have it-GET IT. I don't know what I can say. People who have been successful have always been consistent in the way they run their business. They are always following and implementing new trends into their business. One thing that I need to be asking myself everyday that I learned from a webinar is "Who can I write a contract with this week?"
I am not trying to beat anybody up with what I have written in this blog. This blog was written also for myself too. Anyway I did the EXERCISE part for the LIFE! By DESIGN.

Do you feel secure in your work? No. I did at first. But now I am not so sure.
Does the economy worry you? Yes. Honestly speaking,I think this economy worries everybody including rich people. Wealthy people are losing value in their investment portfolio too. Most of my clients are middle income hard working families. If my clients lose their jobs,they won't be able to afford a mortgage payment which leaves me no income as well since I am relying on my client's purchase or sale to pay my income.
Do you believe you are paid fairly for your work? HECK NO! Most people think that real estate agents make way too much money for the hardwork that we do. Only if they knew.
Are you passionate about the work you do? Very passionate. Love helping people and in Real Estate,we are helping people own a piece of the American Dream and help some people get out of the bad situations that they are in.
Do you feel relevant to the needs of your marketplace? Yes. I have to in order to provide my clients with pertinent real estate information that will help them make a very sound decision.
Are you current on technology? Yes. I like to think that as long as I am a Active Rainmaker who continues to blog and learn from the great superstars here on Active Rain,I feel that I will always be current on Technology. I need to be because I am no tech guru whatsoever.
Are you clear on the value you bring to your organization and customers? Yes. To me it means to always perform all of my fidicuary duties which are care,obedience,Accounting,Loyalty and Disclosure.
Do you feel you are operating By Design in this area of your life? No. Hopefully by purchasing and reading this new book by Tom Ferry,I will.
LIFESTYLE
Are you in a loving,passionate relationship? No-LMAO. I am single at the moment.
Do you have any unresolved issues with your parents? Yes. Even though I have forgiven my father for marrying another woman without even telling me or none of my four brothers,I still need to why would you as the Head of the Household,breadwinner and provider for your family abandon your family to start another one. Was I a bad child growing up? Were you ashamed of me? I don't know. There are some things that I want to know. Hopefully a trip to see my father this year after 21 years of not seeing him,I will be able to the answers to some of my questions. But it is nothing really serious. I thank God for him being my father and taking great care of me. I am fine so there is no need to worry about me-SERIOUSLY.
Do you have any unresolved issues with your siblings? No. But tomorrow my answer might be different,you never know-LOL.
Do you have any regrets about prior relationships? Yes. Some people come into your life for a reason not to be longer than a season. I was just trying to rhyme there-LOL.
Are you satisfied with your outside interests from work? No. But I don't do much though. I got to find more hobbies I guess.
Do you give your children real quality time? I don't have children-THANK GOD. But do I want to one day-ABSOLUTELY. I love children well behaved children.
Do you have an active social life? No! But I will like one that doesn't include Happy Hour and Clubs-Its just not for me.
Are you having enough fun? Not really.
Are you traveling as often as you would like? No! There are some countries that I will like to visit before I die.
Are you grateful for where you live? Yes. I have a roof over my head. Some people are homeless.
Do you have powerful enriching feelings of faith? Yes. I have too much faith in God.
Do people seek you out to spend time with you? Yes. Over the phone. I must be the only psychiatrist in America that is not getting paid for his work. Maybe I need to open up a practice-LOL. I say that because people like to explain their problems to me-Why I don't know. But I guess I am a great listener and I try to do my best to give helpful Godly advice.
Do you feel you are operating By Design in this area of your life? No.
Health and Vitality
Are you satisfied with your current level of energy? No. I want to make time to start working out at the Gym.
Are you satisfied with your physical appearance? No. I just need to bulk up more weight,just not too much. I don't want to be looking like "The Incredible Hulk" and what not-LOL.
Are you working everyday to make your body the best it can be? No. But I know I need to.
Do you make excuses about your body? No! I know that in order to look better I need to start working out at least 4 days a week.
Do you play sports or participate in any athletic activities? Yes! I play basketball. But I haven't played in a while.
Are you eating for energy,health and vitality? Yes! I want to live a very long and prosperous life.
Are drugs or alcohol impacting your work or personal life? I don't do drugs so I thank God for that and I pray that I will never encounter that problem.
Do you have self-esteem? This Man of God has high self esteem.
Are you moody or do you have mood swings? No. While I know people who have mood swings,I don't.
Are you happy? That's a two part answer. I am definitely happy with life. But honestly speaking,I am not happy with my Real Estate Career because I am seeing the results that I want which is why I have made some changes and have to make some more.
Do you suffer from anxiety,stress or depression? Not at all. I dont stress overthing that I can't control.

Lanre, Thank you for sharing part of yourself with everyone here. It is difficult to achieve and maintain happiness for any lengthy period of time but you seem to be pretty adjusted. It's easy to procrastinate when younger because you have more time! I enjoyed the honesty in your post!

Lanre--Wow!!! Just be yourself, that is what I think of when I think of you. You have always impressed me as a very honest, down to earth guy. Keep searching and you will find yourself THEN you will find that right person to share your life with.
Coaching (real estate) can be expensive, but with the right coach you will go to new heights. I wish you lived in Erie as my role with HH is similar to coach w/o the high fee to the agents.

Lanre, your issue with your father mirrors my own, minus the extra drama I wrote about in Memories of My Childhood Home.... Considering that I'm married with children, and doing relatively ok, I don't stress it much anymore...
