Things to do in Washington DC: I need a very good video camera. Any recommendations?

I need a very good video camera. Any recommendations?

I need a very good video camera. Any recommendations? I want to start doing video e-mails,video blogs, video tours of certain local business and subdivisions in Maryland such as Prince George's County,St.Mary's County,Charles County and also DC.

I brought the Flip Camera which I really liked. My only problem with it was that it only records video.  I need something that will record video and take pictures.

I have started doing my research here of course by reading some blogs by many Active Rain members who are probably in my same situation. So what else should I be looking for in a video camera besides Wide Angle Lens,Good Resolutions,Zoom etc?

If anyone has any suggestions on which type of camera records video and take pictures that I should buy please let me know. I would really appreciate it. Jeff Turner,Debi Boucher,Jennifer Fivelsdal and Mary Douglas please respond-LOL.

HD flip video is a very good camera.    Would highly recommend it.

Alan Bruzee-But I want something that I can use to take pictures also. I had the HD Flip Video and I couldn't use it to take pictures. Unless I might be missing something. Thanks for your comments. Have a great weekend.

Lanre,
I believe that you need to different things, I'm not the expert on that topic, but you can ask William Johnson for pictures and for videos, I did a little bit of research on the HD small pocket cameras, check my blog out there, take care

Lanre, if you liked the flip here is a suggestion.  We just purchase a Kodak Zi8.  You can record everything from stills to HD 1080.  Plugs into your computer just like your flip.

The best thing about it is that it has a microphone input which allows you to buy a wireless mike, none of the flips and a lot of higher end video cameras don't even have that.

We paid $164.00 (Canadian).  Check it out!

Lanre - I've been looking for the same thing.  My son has a Panasonic Lumix DMC -ZS3 . . .it takes awesome hd videos and still shots.  This is the second one they have owned (first got stolen).  Costco has a newer model of this, the DMC -ZS6, which has a little more zoom for $269.  It does have wide angle as well.

Hi Lanre, I just bought the Lumix that Valerie mentioned a few month's ago.  I've been practicing with the videos and so far I really like it for a small camera it does a lot.  I'm sure there are far better, more professional and expensive ones but I don't have any experience (or budget) for them :-)  Take care Lanre, I'll look forward to seeing your first film!

Mary Douglas- Hi Mary. Thanks for your comment. I knew you wasn't going to let me down. Give me at least three more years to finally make my Film Debut-LOL. It's coming. I just need a good Video camera to do Real Estate Work for now. Thanks again. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Lanre, I was thinking about the Kodiak Zi8 until the iphone 4 came out.  It's 5mp and HDhat video here on AR shows a how to add wideangle.  For the money it's so much more than a camera and one less thing to lug around.

Lanre,

I have a Nikon camera that does both. I normally use it for pics b/c I do have a flip camera as well. Also Mark Gridely (Mountain Hills, Az) does a lot of techno videos on cameras and videos so he may know.

Lanre I don't have a recommendation, but already I see some good recommendation by other members so I am going to bookmark this.

Lanre - I don't shoot much video, but when I do, I use my regular point and shoot Canon SX200 12.1 mp with 12x zoom.  It takes pretty good video but probably not the quality it sounds like you want.  I have a daughter who recently purchased a Sony Video camera and seem happy with it.  The video quality seems really good.
